How to run a weekly review in twenty minutes
Five steps, one page, twenty minutes on the same day each week: what happened, what is stuck, and what matters next.
- Workflow
Placeholder: this is an invented sample guide. The real Guides are Hyrum’s own how-tos.
You need one page, a timer and the same twenty minutes each week. The weekly review template has the page laid out if you want it.
1. Empty your inboxes (5 minutes)
Collect every loose note, message and scrap into one list. Do not act on anything yet. The point is to see it all in one place.
2. Look back (4 minutes)
Write three lines: what got done, what slipped, and what surprised you. Keep it to facts.
3. Find what is stuck (4 minutes)
For anything that has not moved in two weeks, write the next physical action, or decide to drop it. A task with no next action is a worry, not a task.
4. Pick the week’s three (4 minutes)
Choose the three outcomes that would make next week a good one. Three, not ten. Everything else is allowed to wait.
5. Put them on the calendar (3 minutes)
Give each of the three a time. Work that has no time on the calendar tends not to happen.
When it goes wrong
If you skip a week, do not make up for it. Do the next review as normal. A review that is short and regular beats a long one you dread.
